Rick's photography is firmly rooted in New Mexico and Maui, Hawaii. He studied photojournalism at New Mexico State University before helping to launch the digital program at Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. He then spent five years across the ocean as the head of the photography department at the Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center. He has returned to Sante Fe and is now back at Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, now as head of the digital lab.
As a freelance artist, Rick has enjoyed recognition for his photography, sculptures and paintings. His work, “La Bouche”, was purchased by Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts following the Art Maui 2003 Juried Competition.
Rick has been teaching Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for as long as anyone and aims to create a positive environment where the technology is seen as a friend and not a barrier, and certainly not as an end in itself.
When teaching digital photography Rick encourages his students to break through their own creative boundaries and to translate concepts from their minds into visual art that is much more than a record of time or place.
